I’ve had depression for as long as I can remember. My family members have also had it, so it’s likely a genetic or family-passed behavioural thing. Interlaced with anxiety about success, body image, and relationships. I have been on SSRIs twice, for about about a year each time.

What Gaming Means To Me

It’s hard to say in general as they help me broadly. In the case of mental health, the previously mentioned mindless productivity games act as excellent distractions from the negative thought process. They have also been positive social interactions (both virtually and within physical space with friends or housemates), both when played, and as discussion points outside of the act of game playing.

Women support groups in the game development community. I feel far less imposter syndrome there (though still some).

I'm a psychiatry doctor and passionate gamer. I run a resource called prescriptionpixel.com - an interface between video games and mental health.
This is a space for gamers to safely share their feelings, access personalised resources, and seek help without judgement or stigma.
